I don't know what your favorite vehicle or brand is, so I hope you will accept a photo of one of my girls.

Thank you. This was taken during the photo shoot with my blue one, so the cleanliness part isn't a usual thing. I'd rather spend my time driving my cars rather than cleaning them. Haha

AMG, aka, automatic burnout machine.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:03 |

I really respect that. Most people I know with cars like yours treat them like sculptures.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:07 |
|
I can understand wanting to clean your car but if that's all you're doing and never driving it, I think it defeats the purpose of owning them. Personally, I never felt like a little dirt and a few bugs ever hurt my vehicles.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:14 |
|
I find that I agree with almost everything you say. Out of curiosity, do you actually put any significant mileage on your GTs?
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:15 |
|
I guess great minds do think alike.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:20 |
|
I only ask because you have two of them and an MP4-12C, right? Splitting your driving between the three, you can probably keep the miles down while having your fun. I think I remember you saying something about a Range Rover as well.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 15:39 |
|
Well I usually put around 5-7,000 miles a year on my blue one mainly because it was the first one I purchased and have modified it. Currently it has nearly 50,000 miles on it. My black one, while not intentionally planned, has become more of an investment car due to its rarity. I put less than 1,500 miles a year on it and it has around 8,000 miles.
I do have a 12c. I have always tried to have a DD sportscar and the 12c currently holds that position. I have put over 18,000 miles on her in about a year and a half of ownership.
Having three sportscars does help with keeping down mileage and is just enough, for me at least, to not cause guilt about driving certain ones very often.
Concerning my other vehicles, if I'm going somewhere that I've never been before, a place that I know has large speed bumps or steep entrances, or simply need to haul a significant amount of stuff, I use the Range Rover which I share with my wife. Finally, my wife has a Model S that she uses as her DD.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:17 |

Quite the stable you have there! 5-7k miles a year on a GT, plus 18k in 1.5 years on the McLaren plus whatever you put on the Range? You do a lot of driving, friend!
If I may ask, how have you modified the blue GT?
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:38 |
|
Yes, I do. Thankfully, the GTs' mileage is mostly fun and not work related.

Good lord! That is an incredible list! I would share that comment to Oppo, but I don't want to call too much attention to your cars/lifestyle. I'm sure you are a man who values his privacy.
Also, aren't Pilot Super Sports just the best tires? I love them.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:39 |
|
Thank you for the kind words and privacy. My intent has always been to share what I have with others but I have always struggled with how to do it in a way that doesn't appear make me seem like a show off.
The Pilot Super Sports are truly wonderful tires. I have them on my 12c also and would have them on my black GT but they don't come in stock rim sizes for it.
Do you own any other vehicles in addition to your Mercedes?
![]() 08/27/2014 at 19:07 |
|
A 996 C2S cab that mostly stays with my father now. It was my daily driver until the GT-R but it never left the family when I made the switch to the Mercedes. My mom drives a Range Rover that we share for hauling stuff, and I have an old Taurus that I use when it snows, or when I need to drive the dog around.

Sounds like a good collection to me. I'd be wary of those Porsches though, they seem to become an addiction. Haha

If I can be honest with you, it's the best car I've ever driven. It just does everything effortlessly. It's certainly not the fastest (not even close), but you jump in, start it up, and just go. Nothing ever feels stressed, no weird noises come out of it. It's very clear that 50 years of engineering went into the car. In my opinion, it's the best DD money can buy...

Oh I know the feeling all too well. I've owned a few 911s (most recently GT2 RS and 4.0) and recently parted with this:
![]() 08/28/2014 at 06:30 |
|
Wow. You had a Carrera GT? Unbelievable! Also, I think the 4.0 is one car I could never part with. It would stay with me forever.
![]() 08/28/2014 at 09:43 |
|
Yes, truly one of the most focused driving machines I have ever experienced.
As far as the 4.0, I truly did love it but one of my neighbors kept on me about selling it and eventually made me an absurd for the time offer and that was that. Do I miss it? Absolutely. But life is short so I'll probably buy a few more cars before I start back tracking to cars I've loved previously.
![]() 08/28/2014 at 11:29 |
|
I have to say, I admire your self-control. If I had your kind of money, I would have twenty cars! How long did you own the Carrera GT? And why did you part with it? I assume that car only appreciates in value...
![]() 08/28/2014 at 17:39 |

Totally missed it. Hope it was the best one yet!

Well I've always been sort of a conservative person. Could I afford 20 cars? Technically yes but I'd constantly worry about unforeseen expenses coming up and that's no way to live. In addition, it would feel wasteful to me because I couldn't drive any of them on a regular basis. Also, I've never purchased or viewed cars as a way for me to show off. I always buy my cars because I need their utility or am intrigued or seduced by them. Maybe I'm just old and a little too practical.
I owned the Carrera GT for about 3 years and sold it chiefly because I felt like I couldn't extract the best out of it anymore. As you probably know, the flywheel is very light on the CGT and therefore the engine revs will rise and fall extremely quickly. Well long story short, I'm 72 now and, whether I like it or not, I'm not nearly as quick with my reflects as I used to be and for the last few months of ownership worried that I would not change gear fast enough and might damage the engine. So, I finally came to the conclusion that it was time for me and the old girl to part ways and made sure to sell her to a good friend's son who would treat her right and could enjoy her to the fullest extent of her abilities. In my opinion, seeing another person experience the same joy that you once felt is one of the best feelings a person can have.
I haven't really checked CGT prices recently but I believe that people are finally realizing how terrific they are. Honestly, a true super car in every since of the world. Nothing I've driven comes even close to the raw thrill of driving one.

Sir, you are an inspiration to every enthusiast on this site. I greatly admire and respect the way you own and use your vehicles. I know some billionaires (heck, you might be one of them) who have less impressive collections than yours, and even then, they rarely touch the cars. It is clear that for you, this is a real passion. I have a neighbor, an older gentleman, who has an SLS Black Series that he puts less than 100 miles on a year. It's a waste of a great car, in my opinion. It's great to know that people like you exist.
On another note, I noticed your Terlingua Racing Team icon. Are you involved with them in some way, or just a fan?
![]() 08/28/2014 at 21:01 |
|
Thank you for the kind words my friend but I highly doubt that. I'm just a simple car enthusiast like the rest of you who is blessed to be able to afford the cars I desire.
While it does pain me to see cars sit, I've come to accept that everyone shows affection differently. For people like you and me it's driving our cars and exploring their limits like their manufacturers intended. However, others show it by constantly polishing theirs to an exquisite shine and keeping it in a safe, climate controlled garage. At the end of the day it's their vehicle and, even if I don't agree with their methods, I still respect their decisions.
Concerning my Terlingua Racing icon, I'm just a fan. I've always respected Carroll Shelby and his contribution to the car community as a whole and almost instantly fell in love with the logo when I first saw it.
